Ingredients
4 (1/2 lb) beef cube steaks
2 C flour
2 t baking powder
1 t baking soda
1 t pepper
3/4 t salt
1 1/2 C buttermilk
1 egg
1 T tabasco
2 cloves garlic
3 C vegetable oil
1/4 C flour
4 C milk
Preparation
Pound the steaks to about 1/4 inch thick. Place 2 C flour in shallow bowl. Stir in baking powder, baking soda, salt & pepper. Stir in buttermilk, egg, tabasco & garlic. Dredge each steak first in flour then batter and again in flour. Coat completely. Heat shortening. Fry 3-5 minutes per side. Drain on papper towels. Drain fat from skillet, reserving 1/4 C liquid and solids. Return skillet to med-low with reserved oil. Whisk the remaining flour into oil. Stir in milk, raise heat to medium and sommer gravy. Cook until thick, 5-7 minutes.
