Ingredients

1 recipe of the John’s Favourite chocolate cake, baked in a pan large enough that you can cut out two round pieces to fit snuggly into a trifle bowl, or any tube shaped bowl, wine cooler.

for the adult crowd, cherry Kirsh

1 tin of cherry pie filling

2 1/2 cups Bird’s Custard, cooled

Whipped cream for the topping.

Optional: Shaved chocolate curls.

Preparation

Trifle layers:

  1. chocolate cake
  2. 1/4 cup Cherry Kirsh, soaked into the cake
  3. Half a tin of cherrie pie filling, arranging the cherries nicely around the edge for show
  4. 1 1/4 cup cooled custard
  5. Cake
  6. Kirsh
  7. Cherries
  8. custard
  9. Whipped Cream
  10. Chocolate curls Birthday candles! this feeds a crowd.
